Azure Data Factory and Key Vault changes

Last year I wrote about the formats of connection strings that can be stored in Azure Key Vault & then used by Data Factory, & recently I hopped into ADF only to find that the option for creating linked services using connection strings from Key Vault had apparently disappeared.

It was still possible to access passwords stored as secrets in Key Vault, as shown below, but there was no longer an option for the full connection string.

However, I noticed that there was now a new Version section in the linked service that gave me the options of Recommended or Legacy.

Clicking on Legacy gave me options that include using Key Vault for the connection string.

So great, the option still exists! But there doesn’t seem to be anything in the documentation about what the Recommended version is vs Legacy & how they differ aside from the lack of Key Vault connection string support.
